The Infant Feeding Class

Our class covers the basics of breastfeeding from what your body is actually doing during lactation to hunger cues, latch, common issues, and how to supplement with formula if needed.

When creating this content we kept both first time moms in mind as well as moms going through childbirth again. Just like children, no two feeding journeys will be the same.

Our class is bursting with all the things breastfeeding parents need to have on their minds. Scroll down to see all of the content included in class.

We are now able to take HSA and FSA debit card payment on eligible classes. Please contact your provider to learn more about what your plan covers.

Meet Our Expert Educators

Kelly Rutan, JD and Co-Owner Doulas Of Raleigh. Kelly Rutan is the co-owner of Doulas of Raleigh, one of the Triangle Area's first full-service doula agencies. Kelly is also a Certified Postpartum & Infant Care Doula as well as a Certified Infant Feeding Specialist and has been providing postpartum doula support to families in this area since 2015.

She is a native North Carolinian, growing up in Greensboro and now residing in Cary. Kelly received her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Juris Doctorate degree from American University's Washington College of Law.Prior to her career as a doula, Kelly spent years as a workaholic litigation attorney, trying (and often failing) to balance the demands of a busy career with a fulfilling family life.

It was the lack of quality, caring support during her own postpartum experience that convinced her that new families needed and deserved more. She followed her passion into doula work and has never looked back. As a postpartum & infant care doula, Kelly provides hands-on help and education, as well as uplifting emotional support, to new parents as they navigate this exhausting and overwhelming phase of their lives. She is there to answer questions, help with feeding support, allow families to rest, and encourage them every step of the way. Her main goal with each and every family she works with is to ease the worries and anxieties that surround new parenthood, while simultaneously building their confidence through compassionate, nonjudgmental support. Watching new families grow and thrive is one of the best parts of her job!

Kelly is the proud mom to her two children, Jake and Molly, and the lucky wife to the most supportive husband ever, Jason. She is mildly obsessed with her two rescue pups and enjoys taking them on long walks all over the Cary greenways. When she is not busy supporting new parents and babies, she loves to curl up with a good book and a strong cup of coffee (or three).
Margaret Marsden Fryer, MSN, CNM, IBCLC is a Nurse-Midwife of 25 years, a mother of three, and a certified Lactation Specialist. She is thrilled to join the team at The Nurtured Nest, offering women additional support and resources during this important time of pregnancy, childbearing and early mothering time.
She was educated at Duke University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After five years working in the hospital as a Postpartum, Newborn Nursery, and Labor and Delivery Nurse, she obtained her Masters in Nursing (Midwifery) at Oregon Health Sciences University. She has worked as a midwife in many settings in community health, in private practice, in a birthing center, and most recently as a hospital based Nurse-Midwife.
Margaret is passionate about many aspects of her work: providing bedside labor support, assisting new mothers with breastfeeding, and, as she has a special interest in Perinatal Mood issues addressing the needs of women struggling with anxiety and depression or previous traumatic births. She thrives on educating women about their health, and assisting them in developing a vision of their birth that is safe and family focused.
Margaret is married to Jeff, and is the proud mother of three young adults (two who were born at home). When she is not delivering prenatal care or babies, she enjoys running, reading novels, drinking fine wine, theatrical productions, and digging in the garden. She is a member of Hope Community Church.

Parents love us

I learned SO much more today - and I’ve done a lot of reading before this class… I feel I have a clearer picture, a wealth of resources, and just so much knowledge to mull over until this baby comes…”

The Toy Class Learner
I have attended a few Nurtured Nest classes now and have found each one to be time well spent. This is my first pregnancy and I personally felt that something was missing from a lot of the educational resources/classes out there. While classes through the hospitals were informative, I found that NN provides the content that I was really looking for... The classes have given me confidence to be ok with making choices that will be right for my family. The best part about NN is that the content goes beyond pregnancy topics and is constantly evolving...
